As part of the Foreign Tongues series, they will be using body language to search for a solution to that which divides us: the various languages we speak. The performance is based on regional languages and slang from every part of Europe (including ours!) and is always adapted to the location and architecture where they are performing, in this case Leeuwarden, Friesland and the Westerkerk. What initially appears to be an unintelligible cocktail of languages is transformed in fantastic fashion into a means of communication that transcends words. The language of movement is stronger than our differences. Just see how unbelievably much you understand, even when you haven't understood a word.
In November 2017 Liquid Loft were guests in Friesland, collecting and recording northern languages and dialects. The trip took them to Leeuwarden and the island of Terschelling. This Wadden Sea isle is of course the beautiful location of the Oerol Festival, where another part of the Foreign Tongues series will have its première in June 2018 at another exceptional location.
Church of Ignorance is a coproduction of Donaufestival (Austria), Lân fan taal/Explore the North (the Netherlands) and Liquid Loft (Austria). The world première was 28 April at the Donaufestival in Krems, Austria.
