When he was young he heard Bob Dylan on the radio and knew straight away: this is it. He spent endless hours studying blues and folk, and when he was 21 he was able to buy his first guitar. It took Lookman Adekunle Salami – his full name – just three months to produce his first songs. Straight off they were really something: intimate blues-rock songs with a postmodern twist. Perhaps you know ‘Day to Day for 6 Days a Week’, which has been already streamed over 3 million times. His narrative style – one he shares with another Explore the North performer, Ghostpoet – is particularly inspired by the many trips he used to take between the home he was born at in South London and his foster family in Broadstair. This gave him a unique take on life and gives us the chance to enjoy his folky blues with their poetical lyrics. L.A. Salami managed to capture many hearts in Groningen at Eurosonic Noorderslag 2017, so 2018 is the perfect opportunity to do the same in Friesland.
