From street musician via Anthony and the Johnsons to Explore

American singer-songwriter Baby Dee is a charming grande dame who in a former life was such things as a church organ player, street musician and man. In the 1990s she was part of the art scene revolving around Antony Hegarty (whom you may very well know from Antony and the Johnsons), initially playing the harp. Her songs are a bizarre mix of ancient hymns, vaudeville, black murder ballads and beautiful odes to nature. Between songs she speaks warmly and interjects stories punctuated by her roaring laughter. Her admirers include Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy and broeder Dieleman, and after tonight undoubtedly you!
