Rendition of the special life of Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis

In 2019 it was exactly 100 years ago that the founder of Dutch socialism died: Ferdinand Domela Nieuwenhuis (1846–1919). All the more reason for cult hero Meindert Talma to base his new show on the special life of a man who elicited both love and hate. As a Frisian born and raised in the town of Surhuisterveen, Talma is very well acquainted with the stories about Domela. At secondary school, he wrote a thesis about Domela’s penniless roots. This makes him the perfect candidate to present his life story. At Explore the North he will be performing the entire De Domela Passie, together with the enthusiastic choir de Reade Hoeke from Heerenveen and a string ensemble. Anyone who was lucky enough to see Meindert’s show at Explore the North 2017, Je denkt dat het komt, will be highlighting this one in their festival programme – you don't want to miss it!
