INTIMATE POP SYMPHONIES

Born in the Netherlands, Kim Janssen grew up in Bangkok, Phnom Penh and Kathmandu. After his debut in 2009 and releasing two EPs, one of which a collaboration with The Black Atlantic, Kim Janssen has returned this year with Cousins. On his second album, released in March, he convincingly proves that you can create subtle and intimate music with a major orchestra. He sprinkles his songs with strings, brass and woodwinds, as well as backing vocal ensembles, yet still manages to keep it small-scale and personal.

Janssen’s singing is delightful in falsetto, yet is also superb when his deep, dark tones take over. Janssen will be bringing along six band members to Explore the North, where you can experience the way he is able to truly impress with his magnificent pop, in which classical and orchestral aspects run free, while never dominating.
