A CONVERSATION ABOUT GEESTMAN AND DE GOEDE ZOON

This Saturday evening, authors A.H.J. Dautzenberg and Rob van Essen are the guests in the Waalse Kerk, where they will be discussing their latest novels. This year Van Essen won a major Dutch literary award, the Libris Literatuurprijs, with his novel entitled De goede zoon (The Good Son), while Dautzenberg’s new novel Geestman will be published 7 November. There are plenty of analogies between the two books: both feature a journey accompanied by an absurdist figure (or figures). Rob van Essen's De goede zoon is a riveting tale about a journey through a labyrinth packed with strange events, yet also a surprising autobiographical novel about a son weighing up the past after the death of his mother. Geestman by Dautzenberg is an intriguing tale – in proper Alice in Wonderland fashion – of a man who falls further and further into the depths of his subconscious, literature and the bounds of imagination. Coen Peppelenbos will host the discussion.

‘Dautzenberg is our greatest literary border crosser’ – NRC Handelsblad

‘A sparkling work of literary imagination’ – jury of the Libris Literary Award on Van Essen
